A native of Silver
Spring, Maryland, Shaun Owens joined the law firm of
Schlachman, Belsky & Weiner in April 2008, where he
practices criminal defense, personal injury, and
medical malpractice law. Mr. Owens received his
Juris Doctor from the American University Washington
College of Law in May 2006. During law school, Mr.
Owens spent two years as a volunteer constitutional
law teacher in Washington, D.C. public schools
through the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy
Project, a program sponsored by American and Howard
University law schools. Mr. Owens also served as a
dean's fellow for current Maryland State Senator
Jamin Raskin and former Supreme Court correspondent
Stephen Wermiel, the co-founders of the
Marshall-Brennan program, and became a teaching aide
for Professor Bruce Aitken's course on International
Negotiations. In 2002, Mr. Owens received his B.A.
in Political Science from St. Mary's College of
Maryland, where he was a member of the men's rugby
team from 1998 through 2002. Prior to joining the
law firm of Schlachman, Belsky & Weiner, Mr. Owens
was an Associate Attorney with Odelugo & Johnson in
Hyattsville, Maryland, practicing primarily in the
areas of domestic law, immigration, and criminal
defense. Mr. Owens also served as a law clerk with
the firm Aitken, Berlin & Vrooman, where he handled
international trade law cases, the Cantalupo Law
Group, where he assisted the firm's senior attorneys
with estate and business planning, as well as
community association law, and the Law Office of
John T. Riely, where he handled business- and
