“My job is to give you a full picture of all of your options, and the risks and benefits to each of them. That means not just considering the law, but all of the other information you need to ensure that your goals are met.”

Kieran Dowdy is an associate at SBWD Law, joining the firm in early 2017. Kieran represents police unions and police officers in a wide variety of labor and employment matters, both at the negotiating table and in litigation. He specializes in collective bargaining, employee grievances, pension litigation, administrative hearings and appeals, and employee disciplinary actions. He represents public sector employees in almost one thousand employee interrogations annually, and has presented oral argument before the Circuit Court and Court of Special Appeals in Maryland. He has also successfully negotiated numerous collective bargaining contracts, providing union members with substantial and significant economic gains and job protections for years to come.

Clients appreciate Kieran’s ability to provide clear, concise, and quick answers to complex legal and technical questions. He believes that clients do best when someone takes the time to give them clear, helpful information.

Kieran received his law degree from the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law, graduating magna cum laude. While pursuing his law degree, he sharpened his advocacy skills as a member of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Team, and was recognized for his strengths in litigation, advocacy and mediation. Prior to becoming an attorney, Kieran worked for over eight years in Maryland State Government, serving as an advisor during two administrations on public safety and human services issues, including working as Special Assistant to the Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services. Prior to the practice of law, he received his Bachelor of Arts from St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland. Kieran’s extensive experience in the public sector assists him in navigating all aspects of his clients’ needs.

Outside of his firm obligations, Kieran is active in his community association in Baltimore, serving as President from 2017-2018, and as a member of the Board.
